WWE filed for the trademark rights to the scratch logo that was created during its most popular era, the Attitude Era.

The company did so on March 3rd with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). It’s listed for merchandising. The filing notes the “mark consists of two stacked "W" letters with a scar underneath.” Here is the description:

“Mark For: WW™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of bed blankets, bed linens, comforters, quilts, bed sheets, bedspreads, curtains, draperies, pillow cases, bath linen, towels of textile; woven fabrics; hooded towels; sleeping bags.”

The logo debuted in 1997 around the time of Survivor Series. In May 2002 WWE had to change its name from World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainment after they lost its court case with the World Wildlife Foundation. Thus, they had to change its name and everything affiliated with it including its logo so it went from WWF to WWE. The scratch logo was used until 2014 when WWE rebranded with a new emblem.
