WWE has locked down the trademark rights to several past ECW events
The company did so on August 11 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This filing was for entertainment purposes.
The terms include Cyberslam, Hardcore Haven, Barely Legal, and Massacre on 34th Street, which were past ECW pay-per-view events. Here is the description:
“Mark For: MASSACRE ON 34TH STREET™ trademark registration is intended to cover the categories of entertainment services, namely, a show about professional wrestling; entertainment services, namely, the production and exhibition of professional wrestling events rendered through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing wrestling news and information through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment through broadcast media including television and distributed via various platforms across multiple forms of transmission media; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information.”
When Vince McMahon bought ECW, he was able to obtain various ECW related things such as trademarks, rings, and the tape library.
