WWE has filed for three new trademarks, including two names that are throwbacks to the pandemic era of the company’s programming. The company filed to trademark “Slapjack,” “WWE ThunderDome,” and “Ridge Holland” on August 14.
WWE Files New Trademarks
The trademarks were all filed for entertainment services. The description for the filings includes “wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network,” and other related services.
A Look Back At The Trademarked Names
“Slapjack” was the name used by wrestler Shane Thorne during his time as a member of the Retribution faction in 2020. The “WWE ThunderDome” was the bio-secure bubble created by WWE at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, which allowed the company to produce its weekly television shows with a virtual audience during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The filing for “Ridge Holland” is a renewal of the trademark for the current NXT superstar, a common practice for the company. The filings for “Slapjack” and “ThunderDome” are likely just to protect the company’s intellectual property.
