WWE Forced To Scrap Major Saturday Night’s Main Event Angle

A new report has revealed WWE’s creative plans for Austin Theory prior to the injury suffered by World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there was talk backstage of Theory joining The Vision faction and the angle of him doing that would’ve played out at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Joining The Vision

The plan reportedly involved Austin Theory making his presence felt at the November 1 Saturday Night’s Main Event. The report states, “There was at least talk that the introduction of Austin Theory to The Vision would come on that show to lead to him joining the group”. At that event, CM Punk was scheduled to challenge Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship after winning a number one contender’s match on Raw.

WarGames Implications

Theory’s integration into the group was reportedly designed to set up a match for the annual WarGames event in November. According to Dave Meltzer, Theory’s involvement would have created a scenario where Roman Reigns and CM Punk would team up to battle The Vision. “Theory’s involvement would have in some form led to Reigns and Punk coming together on the same unit against The Vision in War Games, since Reigns was beaten at Crown Jewel by Reed, with help from Breakker,” the report stated. However, there is a potential wrinkle in that creative direction, as Reigns had indicated after his loss that he still wanted to handle things on his own.

Plans Up in the Air

With Seth Rollins now expected to be sidelined for an extended period with a shoulder injury, these creative plans have been thrown into disarray. WWE must now decide on the future of the vacated World Heavyweight Championship, the main event for Saturday Night’s Main Event, and the new direction for the WarGames storyline.

As it stands, The Vision has moved on from Seth Rollins, turning on their former leader on Monday Night Raw and elevating Bron Breakker into a main event position. Austin Theory remains waiting to make his return to TV.
