Jonathan Snowden has a great article on Bleacher Report detailing WWE’s creative process and how their storylines finally make it into the ring. The article notes that the wrestling was called on the fly for much of wrestling’s history but these days the matches are designed with the help of the agents backstage and the interviews are scripted by the writers at WWE headquarters in Stamford.
Triple H was interviewed for the article. He noted that they have more than 20 writers on the staff but at the end of the day Vince McMahon has final say on what goes on the air.
“The final call is Vince,” Triple H said. “He gets all these suggestions and ideas, and he weighs in on them. It’s a collaborative effort, but there’s one general. And that guy makes the final call. There’s never an open-ended debate between four people about what should happen on the shows. … At some point it gets to Vince, and Vince goes, ‘Here’s what we’re going to do.’ And that’s what we go do.”
WWE rarely gives this types of access into their creative process and how things work behind the scenes so this is a great read. There is a lot of insight into Daniel Bryan’s push, the “YES” movement, Occupy Raw, and tons more. Check out Snowden’s article by clicking here. In addition to Triple H, there are first-hand quotes from Stephanie McMahon and Daniel Bryan.
