WWE gives WALTER a new name that has a Nazi Germany history

WALTER defeated Roderick Strong in the main event of this week’s WWE NXT 2.0 broadcast but the bigger story was what happened after the match.

WALTER said that the winner of the match is “Gunther,” apparently his new name. That was followed up with a big brawl to end the show.

As it was noted earlier, WWE recently trademarked the name “Gunther Stark.” A quick Google search shows that there was a Gunter Stark who severed as a Nazi Germany military commander during World War II.

It is pretty clear now that the name was trademarked for WALTER. It remains to be seen if they will decide to remove his last name or continue with their plans.

Presumably, WWE did not know of the history of the name but the story was trending earlier today so they did have time to make changes as necessary or possibly hold off another week before deciding on his new name.

Check out the closing segment below where he refers to himself as Gunther.
