The decision on which wrestlers to release this week was apparently made shortly before the news got out because there were people who were involved or about to start storylines on television.
Fightful reports that there were plans for Marina Shafir to be paired with the new stable, The Diamond Mine. She was going to be something like a “female enforcer” for the stable led by her real-life husband Roderick Strong. The report adds that many people in NXT were under impression that this was still the plan when the group debuted last Wednesday.
Another name that was penciled in for the group was Arturo Ruas, who was also released on Thursday. He reportedly was told that plans changed a few days before the group debuted.
Shafir is one of 14 names released by the company this week. The reasoning that was given, as is the case for all mass releases, is that the company needed to cut people due to budget cuts. WWE might not be done yet because they have yet to announce releases for NXT UK. It was reported a few weeks ago by Andrew Zarian that NXT UK releases are expected soon.
