The release of Harry Smith, son of "British Bulldog" Davey Boy Smith, was baffling since he was hired a few months ago and the company did nothing with him.

Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that there were ideas for him and one was for him the become one of the biggest stars of the NXT UK brand, since his father was very popular there in the 90s. Harry's father headlined SummerSlam at Wembley Stadium in 1992 and it was at the time the highest attended show in company history (80,000). As noted by Meltzer and in Bret Hart's book, the legitimate attendance number was higher than the legitimate WrestleMania 3 attendance (78,000).

Meltzer said that when Harry was signed this year, travel wasn't opened up, and then it was decided to put him on the main roster. Aside from one dark match before an episode of SmackDown, the company did nothing with him.
