WWE Hall Of Famer Kevin Nash Criticizes CM Punk’s Remark Regarding Roman Reigns’ Father

On the latest Kliq This podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash addressed last week’s verbal exchange between CM Punk and Roman Reigns. During the March 2 broadcast of Monday Night RAW, the two performers engaged in a segment where CM Punk stated to Roman Reigns, “I’m going to bury you next to your dad.” The remark referenced the real-life passing of WWE Hall of Famer Sika Anoa’i, the father of Roman Reigns.

Kevin Nash expressed his disagreement with the inclusion of the statement in the program. Nash stated: “I don’t like that. I mean, it doesn’t, not even gonna f**king make reference to it, because whose ever idea it was on any level. If death is funny, may it be on your doorstep the next f**king day.”

The discussion, led by host Sean Oliver, questioned whether the specific line was part of the scripted material provided by the writing team or if CM Punk had deviated from the planned content. Oliver asked: “Do they have that leeway to kind of go out there and be a little creative on their own?”

Nash declined to speculate on the internal origins or the approval process for the remark. Nash stated: “I just should not talk about it.” He later added, “Those are your top guys, right? That have earned the wiggle room to say what they want to to get people invested. And that—that last line about, you know, your dead dad—strictly for shock value. And I can tell you that, in my opinion, that line didn’t match the tone of the promo. But I can also tell you, I understand dropping a bomb in there just to get people talking.”

Nash compared the segment to other “organic” moments in wrestling history, but distinguished between character-driven catchphrases and remarks involving real-life family tragedies. Nash stated: “Where is that next organic thing? That next organic character, that next organic tagline… where is it coming from? That’s what to me is missing—the raw, organic moments that happen when talent have the opportunity to go in the middle of the ring and be talented, when they have just enough leeway to get something over on their own.”

Beyond the verbal exchange, Nash provided a critique of the overall production of Monday Night RAW. He specifically addressed a segment involving an ambulance and WWE star Seth Rollins. During the broadcast, an ambulance was driven away from the arena by LA Knight with Paul Heyman inside.

Nash compared the segment to his own tenure in the NWO. Nash stated: “I really dug the way that whole thing played out Monday night. It kind of got a little NWO to me when they hijacked the ambulance and drove off.”

Nash indicated that while he found certain elements of the broadcast to be over-produced, the current creative direction has maintained audience engagement. Nash noted: “Everything seems very controlled and written and scripted… but those are your top guys… they have earned the wiggle room. We’ve gotten this unpredictability coming out of the chamber. Hopefully we’re going to get more of the unpredictability tonight. I just want to feel like, ‘wow, something is going on.'”
