We are sad to report that WWE Hall Of Famer and former WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino has passed away at the age of 82. Sammartino was hospitalized this week in Pittsburgh.
There is so much that can be said about Sammartino. Undoubtedly, he is one of the biggest names in the history of the wrestling business and he was one of the major players in the World Wide Wrestling Federation just before Vince McMahon, Sr. expanded nationally. You could say that he was the first major WWF/WWF star that paved the way for names like Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, John Cena, etc.
On behalf of everyone here at WrestlingNews.co, we extend our condolences to Sammartino’s friends and family. On a personal note, I would like to say that Sammartino was very gracious to me when I met him at the Arnold Classic a few years ago. He was one of the true nice guys in the business.
Devastated to hear the passing of a true icon, legend, great, honest and wonderful man…
A true friend…and one of the toughest people I've ever met.
My thoughts are with his entire family. #RIPBrunoSammartino #AmericanDream
