The Roman Reigns-Jey Uso story had a new layer added to it this week.
As noted earlier, it appears that Kevin Owens will be next in line to challenge for the Universal Championship at the TLC pay-per-view. Jey Uso showed an aggressive side during his match with Owens this week on Friday Night SmackDown but he was not quite able to get the job done because he ended up being toss through a table and taking several chair shots from Owens as the show went off the air.
WrestlingNews.co first reported several weeks ago that fans could expect to see some changes in Jey Uso in the coming weeks. Jimmy Uso is expected to join Reigns and Jey when he is cleared for in-ring action.
One of the subtle changes to Uso is that he’s been wrestling without a shirt since the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. There are also plans to change his entrance and theme music.
One source told us that although Roman Reigns is the top priority for this storyline, the idea is to also elevate Jimmy and Jey and the subtle changes are meant to give them a rougher edge. This week, Michael Cole referenced Jey as “Main Event Uso.”
“This story is meant to elevate Roman but also to bring Jimmy and Jey up to the next level as well,” a WWE source told us several weeks ago.
Vince McMahon is fully on board with everything and the story is said to be mapped out months in advance. On a related note, Uso has gotten a lot of praise from wrestlers and people in management for the excellent work he has done during this storyline.
