WWE has bigger plans for Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar after Crown Jewel

Brock Lesnar will work his first wrestling match since WrestleMania 36 when he steps into the ring to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view event.

Before WWE made this match official at Crown Jewel, it was previously reported that WWE had considered holding off Lesnar’s return until WrestleMania 38 next year for a match with Reigns.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this feud is going to continue for quite a long time. Meltzer noted that “this is not a one-and-done program.” Unless WWE can get The Rock to work with Reigns at WrestleMania 38, which doesn’t seem likely due to his busy Hollywood schedule, then Lesnar vs. Reigns is the biggest match possible the company can make at this upcoming show.

The report noted, “the idea here is to build to a return, whether that means Lesnar wins to build to a rematch or some disputed decision takes place.”

As seen on television, Paul Heyman is a big part of this storyline as he has been aligned with Reigns ever since “The Big Dog” made his return at last year’s SummerSlam due to Lesnar not being under contract with the company. WWE has incorporated that on TV in the lead-up to Crown Jewel as Reigns has questioned whether Heyman actually knew Lesnar was going to show up at this year’s SummerSlam and the moves Lesnar has been making.
