There have been a lot of changes in WWE over the last few years, whether that be the COVID-19 pandemic, how they tour, going international with its PLE shows, Vince McMahon walking away only to return, the departure of Stephanie McMahon, Triple H taking over creative, and WWE being acquired by the Endeavor Group.
The company has also changed the way they handle talent contracts when they’re about to expire. In 2021, the company lost some notable talent, including Bryan Danielson and Adam Cole. There are several wrestlers who signed deals that year, and they will expire in 2024.
In the past, WWE would start to talk with talent to extend their deals about a year and a half before they were up. In the cases of Pete Dunne and Cole, their deals expired without the company realizing it.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that a change in talent relations and a major turnover within the company, and some new faces at the top of the company, have changed how the company negotiates talent contracts over the last year.
The media outlet was told that the new approach to this was to come closer to when the deals expire before they start the talks. This practice was mostly in place as of the summer of 2021 but not handled in every case as it is now. That was a big adjustment from what the company was looking to do in the past.
It’s unclear whether this way of handling business will remain under the leadership of Triple H, but thus far into his reign, there haven’t been many cases where talent was negotiating deals way ahead of time.
