WWE Has Discussed Bringing In Ric Flair For Royal Rumble

WWE will historically bring in legends and former stars for the Royal Rumble for various reasons, whether that is for surprise appearances in the Rumble matches or film interviews.

In recent months, WWE has been bringing in legends for big shows to have them sit at ringside or just honor them backstage. They did that with WCW legends at Bad Blood since it was in Atlanta, the home base for Jim Crocket Promotions and WCW for years, or former WWE stars from the 80s for Saturday Night’s Main Event.

PWInsider.com reports that there’s been talk of bringing some former Royal Rumble winners in for the 2025 Rumble event. It was said that Hacksaw Duggan and Ric Flair have been the two names bounced around. Should they be at the event, it’s likely for a cameo and not to wrestle.

Flair was brought into AEW for Sting’s retirement run but hasn’t been used since last March. Flair was slated for a cameo appearance for AEW Collision in Charlotte, NC, last Saturday but was scrapped. Flair’s deal with AEW was very similar to Randy Savage’s with WCW in the mid-1990s as Tony Khan has confirmed that AEW has been getting paid by Wooooo Energy for all of his appearances.

Duggan won the first Rumble in 1988, while Flair won the WWF title in the 1992 edition of the Rumble. WWE presents the Royal Rumble premium live event on Saturday, February 1, 2025, from Indianapolis, IN, at Lucas Oil Stadium.
