WWE Friday Night SmackDown is about to experience more changes than just moving from FOX to the USA Network, as it will move to three hours starting tonight.
Tonight’s show only has two things confirmed for the show. This includes WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax defending against Naomi and United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Andrade in a non-title bout.
Dr. Chris Featherstone of SportsKeeda, who has broken past stories, reports that a major focus on SmackDown moving forward will be to showcase more underutilized talent on the program. Also, Blair Davenport is a name that was “discussed for more television time and will ‘be off and running’ with the new format.”
Davenport was called up to the main roster last year on the SmackDown brand. However, she hasn’t been used much on television during this time. Her last match was in late November, losing a WWE Women’s United States Title Tournament First Round Triple Threat to Chelsea Green.
More matches and segments will be announced throughout the day.
Tonight marks the first WWE #SmackDown of the new 3-hour format.
I was informed that internally, a major focus will be to showcase more underutilized talent on the program.
