WWE has filed a lawsuit against the Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton.
It was filed on February 16th to prevent the release of an agreement between WWE and the City of San Antonio. Brandon Thurston of WrestleNomics reports the release of the deal would reveal how much WWE was paid to bring the Royal Rumble to the city last year.
WWE claims the deal is a trade secret and has proprietary information that fits an exemption in Texas’s public information law.
Last April, city officials were granted an exemption from the state Attorney General’s office. This allowed them to withhold from bidding on the deal. That changed last month as the Attorney General revised the decision with Assistant Attorney General Michelle Garza, stating, “WWE has failed to provide specific factual evidence demonstrating the information at issue is confidential under” Texas’s public information law.
The revision appears to be brought on by the review following a second records request done before last October, as WWE says it received notice from San Antonio about another request.
The second organization that was requested was Intelligence Options, LLC. WWE stated that the request is now moot as it was made in connection with a lawsuit that has since been settled.
