Bobby Lashley appeared on Busted Open Radio to promote this Sunday’s WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Lashley is scheduled for the Men’s Rumble match and he has a U.S. title defense coming up soon against Matt Riddle. During the interview, Lashley revealed that WWE has no plans for him to wrestle Brock Lesnar. Lashley has wanted that match for years but, for some reason, he says he was told that it’s not happening.
Here are some highlights from his interview on Busted Open Radio:
Bobby Lashley was asked, “What’s the biggest difference with the WWE now as compared to your first run with them?”
Lashley said, “I think right now they focus a little bit more on the show aspect of it versus the competition and the fight. I know that when I went in before, I was having matches with JBL, Booker, Mark Henry, Benoit and all these different guys. It was a contest. It was a competition. It looked like we were in there fighting and we were in there battling. It was a different style. Right now, I think there’s a lot of focus on some of the other things, some of the theatrical parts of wrestling. It’s a good thing. You have to change with the times so you get a little bit of both. I think that’s what we’re doing with The Hurt Business. We are trying to bring back that old, rougher style, hurt you, beat you up style of wrestling, and mix it in with what they got going on now.”
Lashley talking about possibly wrestling Brock Lesnar:
“I like the Brock match up. I’ve heard it is not happening several times. I don’t know why. Whatever the case is, maybe he’s not coming back. Maybe he has other focuses in the company. I don’t know. I like the matchup. Another person I would like to tangle back with is Braun (Strowman). Braun’s always a huge deal and he’s one person that can disrupt a little bit of stuff in The Hurt Business and I loved fighting him the first time.
Lashley was asked “If you were to win the Royal Rumble and had your choice of wrestling Drew McIntyre or Roman Reigns to face at WrestleMania, who would you choose and why?
“That’s a hard one because you Roman is at the top of the pile. He’s the guy, but at the same time, Drew’s on a role too. You can’t really go wrong with either one of them. I would like the fight with Drew. I would like the notoriety with Roman. I would like to fight with either one of them. That’s a tossup. Whoever wins that, that’s a hard decision to make because either way, you’re going to have a great match, a lot of pub with it, and it is going to be what you need. I don’t even know who I would pick.”
