WWE has announced that they have released The AOP (aka Authors Of Pain’s Akam and Rezar).
In a short statement on their website, they said, “WWE has come to terms on the release of Akam and Rezar (AOP). We wish them all the best in their future endeavors.”
The news of their release is surprising because they were on track to get a big push as part of Seth Rollins’ stable earlier this year. That push was derailed with Rezar suffered a right torn biceps during a match on the March 9th edition of Monday Night Raw.
Akam was taken off shows since WWE management felt that it was better to have him sit at home until his tag team partner was ready to return.
Fast forward several months and Rollins’ stable only consists of himself and Murphy and WWE is teasing that Murphy is about to break away from Rollins.
AOP signed with WWE in 2016. They are former NXT Tag Team Champions and former WWE Raw Tag Team Champions. In 2016, they were the winners of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
