AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship was positioned a few minutes before the third hour of the show. Apparently, they did this to space out the title matches.
The match got off to a slow start but things picked up towards the second half. Styles’ mouth was busted open in the latter stages of the match.
Late in the match, Joe caught Styles with the Coquina Clutch but Styles was able to drop down and get Joe on his back. Joe claimed that Styles tapped out but the referee said that his shoulders were down on the map.
Joe grabbed the title as if he won but Styles nailed him with a kick to the head. Corey Graves kept saying that Joe did not look like a man who was defeated. The alternate camera angle showed that Styles tapped before the referee counted to three. This feud will continue.
