Kickoff Show
Smackdown Tag Team Championship
The New Day (Champions) vs. Rusev Day
Pretty good match, especially for the Kickoff show. The New Day was able to retain after Kingston pinned English after hitting the Trouble in Paradise finisher. Rusev was not happy because he had the match in hand until English tagged himself in. Clearly, they are still teasing a split for Rusev Day.
Main Card
Hell In A Cell Match
Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton
This match kicked off the show because they wanted to space out the cell matches. About 9 minutes into the match, a couple of ladders were introduced into the match and Hardy was the first to go through one that was set up at ringside in between the cell and the ring. Orton followed up with repeated chair shots to Hardy’s back. Orton then whipped Hardy several times with a belt. Minutes later, Orton brought a screwdriver into the ring. He stuck it in the hole in Hardy’s ear and then twisted on it. Hardy escaped after hitting Orton with a low blow. Hardy was able to get some belt shots to Orton’s back. There was blood showing on Orton’s back from the belt shots. Orton took over on offense. He tried to hit an RKO but Hardy countered into a Twist of Fate. Hardy went up to the top and hit a Swanton onto a chair that was sitting on Orton’s chest. Orton was able to kick out of a pin attempt. Hardy set up a big and small ladder and a table in the ring. Instead of doing a leapfrog spot on Orton through a table, Hardy decided to climb up and swing off the top off the cage. Orton moved and Hardy fell through the table. It looked like a really bad landing. The referee called for the cage to be raised so the EMT’s could run down to the ring. Orton scored a quick pin. It was an awkward finish. It may have been the planned finish but that had to really hurt.
Smackdown Women’s Championship
Charlotte Flair (Champion) vs. Becky Lynch
Lynch won the title after avoiding a spear attempt from Flair. The crowd was into everything and there was a big pop for Lynch when she won the title. Flair tried to shake Lynch’s hand but Lynch refused and said that Flair would not take this moment away from her.
Backstage, The New Day celebrated their title win.
Raw Tag Team Championship
Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre (Champions) vs. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose
This match was insane. There were tons of insane spots and near falls, as you would expect and the crowd was into everything. In the last minute, Rollins hit a superplex off the top but was caught in the face by the Claymore Kick from McIntyre as Rollins tried to hit the Falcon Arrow. The champions retained.
Backstage, Braun Strowman told Mick Foley to make sure he does his job tonight if he wants to avoid a “monster problem.”
WWE Championship
AJ Styles (Champion) vs. Samoa Joe
This match ended in controversy. Styles went for the Phenomenal Forearm but caught him in the Coquina Clutch. However, Styles was able to get Joe on his back and he appeared to get the pin on Joe. The referee awarded the match to Joe. However, Joe argued that he was able to get Styles to tap out. The alternate camera angle showed that Styles did indeed tap. This feud will continue.
Mixed Tag Team Match
Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella vs. The Miz and Maryse
The finish of this match was Maryse countering a roll-up with a handful of tights. Maryse and Miz won. It was a fun match and Brie even got some punches in on The Miz. Bryan will get a one-on-one match with The Miz in a few weeks at Super Show-Down.
Raw Women’s Championship
Ronda Rousey (Champion) vs. Alexa Bliss
This was Rousey’s longest singles match and it was smartly booked. They played up that Rousey had “injured” ribs so Bliss used that to her advantage. Bliss also had Alicia Fox and Mickie James interference at ringside but in the end Rousey was able to make Bliss submit to the armbar to retain her title.
Backstage, Samoa Joe was angry at the referee for blowing the call earlier. GM Paige told Joe to calm down. She said the referees decision is final but he will get his rematch at WWE Super Show-Down in Melbourne, Australia. Joe promised to make things a lot worse and he wants No DQ and no countouts for the next match. Paige agreed with that.
WWE Universal Championship – Hell in a Cell Match – Mick Foley as special referee
Roman Reigns (Champion) vs. Braun Strowman
This match was wild with weapons used. Things really picked up when Rollins, Ambrose, McIntyre and Ziggler all made their way to ringside. They ended up on the top of the cell and then Ziggler and Rollins crashed and burned through a table after falling from halfway down the cell. Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman came out. Lesnar kicked through the cell door and attacked Strowman and Reigns. The show ended with no winner because the new referee said they could not continue. Foley was taken out of the equation thanks to Heyman spraying something in his eyes.
