WWE 24/7 Championship
R-Truth vs. Drew Gulak
This was basically a comedy match with Gulak starting out by pretending to high five and kicking little Jimmy. Truth won with a John Cena comeback and the jackknife. After the match, Tozawa and Lucha House Party chased Truth to the back. Gulak went up to the pre-show panel area and said that John Cena (Truth’s supposed childhood hero) sucks.
There was a promo with Mustafa Ali backstage. Retribution was with him. He made a challenge for one Retribution member to face one of the members of The Hurt Business.
WWE Universal Championship – Hell in a Cell “I Quit” Match
Roman Reigns (Champion) vs. Jey Uso
Before the match got started, they aired a long video package on Reigns and Uso and their families so it looked like they were stretching for time. The entrances didn’t start until about 10 minutes into the show. The match didn’t get started until about 7:15 pm eastern.
Reigns beat on Uso during the first few minutes of the match and he kept telling him that this is not what he wanted to do. Uso finally got in some offense with some kicks and a splash about 9 minutes into the match. Uso brought a strap into the match and he used it several times on Reigns’ back but Reigns surprised Uso with the third spear of the match. Reigns turned the tables and whipped Uso several times with the strap. Reigns then tied the strap to Uso’s wrist and then proceeded to whip him again. Uso fought back with punches and a kick and then he tied the strap around Reigns’ neck in an attempt to get him to quit. Reigns looked like he was about to pass out but he shook his head to indicate that he was not quitting.
Uso went to use a chair but Reigns caught him with a Superman punch and then he locked in a guillotine choke submission but Uso would not quit and Reigns let go of the hold. There was a lot of silence for about a minute as Reigns pleased with Uso to just quit the match. Reigns then hit the Drive By to Uso on the pole in the corner in the ring but Uso would not quit.
Reigns then grabbed steel steps and placed them next to Uso’s head and then he did another Drive By with Uso’s head wedged in between the steps and the ring post. The referee was about to call the match because Uso was out of it but Reigns decided to toss the referee out of the ring. Another referee ran into the cage and he was chased away by Reigns. Adam Pearce and several other officials also ran into the ring. Reigns tossed the steel steps into the ring as the officials scurried away. Reigns was about to drop the steps on Jey but then Jimmy ran in the ring and Reigns stopped. Jimmy said, “It’s Josh that’s laying here in the middle of this damn ring.” Reigns appeared to show remorse because he sat in the ring and he started crying. Reigns then locked Jimmy in a guillotine choke hold as Jey started to get up and plead with Reigns. Jey said “I Quit” so he could get Reigns to let go of his brother.
Reigns walked up the stage and was met by Afa and Sika so he is now officially the Tribal Chief.
Jeff Hardy vs. Elias
Elias gave a quick performance before the match. The match ended in a disqualification when Hardy grabbed the guitar and smashed it on Elias.
Money In The Bank Contract on the line
Otis vs. The Miz
This ended with a shocking turn. Tucker hit Otis with the briefcase and this allowed The Miz to win the Money In The Bank briefcase.
It’s unclear what this means because Tucker and Otis are on separate brands but it’s clear now that Tucker is going to be pushed as a heel.
After the match, Miz put all of the champions on notice. Tucker said he carried the team and he was the afterthought. Otis attacked Tucker in the backstage area.
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship – Hell in a Cell Match
Bayley (Champion) vs. Sasha Banks
They didn’t waste time with the weapons in this match. They had tables and chairs in the match within the first few minutes.
They did a spot where Banks crashed into the steps head first but there was also a kendo stick wedged in between the steps and the cage. Moments later, Bayley took a sunset flip into the cage and Banks took one later on with the back of her head hitting a chair in the corner.
Bayley used a kendo stick to attack Banks and then she grabbed some duct tape to tie two kendo sticks together so she could wedge them in between the ring and the cage. Banks used a fire extinguisher to blind Bayley and Bayley panicked and she tried to get out of the ring but she managed to slip a chair into the cage but Banks attacked with punches to the back.
Banks then hit Bayley repeatedly with kendo stick shots while in the ring. Bayley tried to crawl toward a chair but Banks stopped on her hand and then splashed her but Bayley was able to get the chair up. Bayley set Banks up on a ladder that was set up in between two chairs in the ring. She jumped off the middle rope to drive a chair into Banks but Banks got up and she got back on offense, including a Bayley to Belly. Bayley fought back but Banks was able to lock in the Banks Statement with a chair wrapped around Bayley’s head.
WWE United States Championship
Bobby Lashley vs. Slapjack
This was a late addition to the show. This was a basic match, nothing special. Lashley retained the title after hitting a spinebuster and then forcing Slapjack to submit to the full nelson. The other Retribution members attacked Lashley after the match but the rest of the Hurt Business ran out and Retribution scurried away from the area.
WWE Championship – Hell in a Cell Match
Drew McIntyre (Champion) vs. Randy Orton
This match had everything you would expect with all sorts of weapons and parts of the ring like the steel steps used. About 15 minutes in, McIntyre hit the Future Shock DDT. WWE piped in a “this is awesome” chant when Orton was slammed through a table at ringside.
About 20 minutes into the match, Orton used bolt cutters to cut the padlock and chain that kept the door closed. They brawled around the ringside area outside of the cage for a couple of minutes and then Orton started to climb the cell for no reason. Samoa Joe tried to cover for the lack of logic by saying that Orton wanted to try his luck on the top of the cell because he didn’t have much luck inside of it. McIntyre followed Orton to the top of the cell.
Orton tried to hit McIntyre with a steel pipe but McIntyre ducked out of the way and then rained down with punches. McIntyre turned around to pose and that gave Orton the chance to use the pipe. Orton tried to climb down the side of the cell and McIntyre did the same. Orton was able to knock McIntyre off the side of the cell and through an announcer’s table at ringside and then they piped in “holy sh**” chants. The camera showed blood coming out of McIntyre’s mouth.
Orton was able to get McIntyre back inside of the ring so he could try to end the match as McIntyre was still suffering the effects of falling off the cell. Orton went for the RKO but McIntyre counted into a backslide and pin attempt. Orton kicked out but then McIntyre kicked Orton with the Claymore so hard that it sent Orton out of the ring. McIntyre brought Orton back into the ring and then he went for another Claymore but Orton ducked and hit the RKO to win the title.
