After the news this week that Olympic Gold Medalist Gable Steveson has signed with WWE, there are already big plans being talked about for him.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer said that there is already some talk of having Brock Lesnar wrestle Steveson eventually in a "passing-of-the-torch type of moment."
It was not said when that could happen. It's worth noting that WWE did a lot to get him signed, including agreeing to sign him while he stays in college. Steveson is also friends with Lesnar and Paul Heyman and people high up in management have praised him so he already has allies in high places.
“Gable impressed us well before he became a U.S. Olympic gold medalist," Paul Levesque told ESPN. “He has all the tools to be a generational talent: a world-class athlete with size, speed, determination -- and the ability to captivate an audience with his incredible charisma. The introduction of NIL allows us to create a more direct path from college to WWE, a benefit to athletes as well as the WWE universe, as Gable will have an immediate presence with our company while working towards earning his degree and defending his national championship. The future is bright for him in WWE.”
Meltzer stated in the Observer that WWE will set up a training facility for Steveson in Minneapolis, MN so he could train while he continues going to college and he will be brought in to Orlando at times.
It was also reported by Meltzer that he will start full-time on TV in May 2022 after the NCAA tournament and the ending of his senior year of college.
