UPDATE: Looks like plans have changed and Kingston is the front-runner to be Bryan’s opponent at Fastlane. Click here for the story.
ORIGINAL: Following last night’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, there’s a growing feeling on social media that Kofi Kingston should be the person to challenge for the WWE Championship at Wrestling. However, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Kingston vs. Bryan is not in WWE’s plans right now.
In fact, WWE is not considering anyone on the current active roster for Bryan’s WrestleMania opponent.
Meltzer is reporting that WWE has been considering bringing someone back. Among the names being considered are Bray Wyatt, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Dave Bautista, and The Undertaker.
Owens and Zayn are ready to return to action and Owens would be a good fit after they showed him being a “regular guy” eating junk food, something Bryan’s character would hate. Several weeks ago, we reported about plans for a retirement match for Kurt Angle. John Cena doesn’t seem to have an opponent now that plans for his match with Lars Sullivan have seemingly dissipated. Bautista is interesting since he wanted a match with Triple H and has recently spoken with AEW but the feeling is that he wants to return to WWE and not sign with AEW. The Undertaker seems the least likely of the bunch of suggested names but talks have started again about getting him on WrestleMania. Remember, just a week ago he was not on the internal list of names on the top of this year’s card so perhaps, his Starrcast appearance may have caused WWE to reach out to him.
