The old phrase in wrestling is “never say never” and there are names that you’d never think would work for WWE…until they reach out to them.
Joey Ryan is someone WWE passed on several years ago and the feeling was that they would never hire him because of the penis gimmick and WWE’s PG stance.
Well, as noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has had communication with Ryan. Although he has been appearing on Being The Elite, he is not under contract with All Elite Wrestling…at least not yet.
Dave Meltzer notes that WWE did not give him an official offer (as of earlier this week) but they did reach out to him after word got out that he is now a free agent and he was asked if he was willing to move to Orlando. They said he could wrestle for a few years with them and then move into a coaching role.
The problem with that is Ryan lives in Los Angles and makes very good money and more than the usual NXT salary. Ryan would have taken an offer from WWE if he was 29 years old but he is 39 and signing with them would mean a pay cut for him so he probably won’t sign with WWE.
It’s interesting that Ryan didn’t jump at the chance to sign with WWE and then Bobby Roode was repackaged as somewhat of a Joey Ryan clone with the mustache and shaved beard on this week’s episode of WWE Raw.
