John Cena will be in New York City this weekend and he will be wrestling at WrestleMania 35 but WWE is keeping his opponent a secret. What is known for sure is that Cena will not be there to wrestle Kurt Angle.
For what it’s worth, Lars Sullivan is ready to return and Triple H has hinted that he would be back soon so Sullivan could be a possibility or Cena could win a match at WrestleMania against someone else and Sullivan can run out after the match to attack Cena. As previously noted, the original plan as for Sullivan to attack Cena in January to set up their match for WrestleMania. However, Sullivan ended up flying home after suffering an anxiety attack.
“Whatever it is, the Cena match is being kept secret,” Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio. “Even people who know everything don’t know that one but I don’t know who it is. It’s not Kurt, for sure. He’s got nothing to do with the Kurt match. Kurt is wrestling Baron Corbin and unless there’s another guy who’s coming in that we don’t know, that’s who it’s gonna be.”
It sounds like we might not know who Cena will face until the show happens just like last year when his match against The Undertaker was not officially made until Taker walked out to the ring.
It’s going to be a long night with 17 matches scheduled for this year’s show. We’ll have complete coverage of WrestleMania week here on WrestlingNews.co. Click here for backstage WrestleMania 35 news including news on original plans for Dean Ambrose, the original plan for Asuka, and more.
