WWE Is Looking to Sign a Top Free Agent

When Triple H took over main roster creative last year from Vince McMahon, he brought back several wrestlers to WWE who had been previously let go during the COVID-19 pandemic while also signing other talent.

However, since McMahon returned in January to explore a sale of the company, there haven’t been any notable signings. They had been in talks with Jay White, who ended up signing with the rival promotion, AEW, instead of WWE because talks were put on ice. That looks to be changing, though.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that WWE is interested in signing Richard Holliday. They’re still also interested in NJPW’s Tama Tonga.

Meltzer wrote, “I don’t know if they will be signed but there has been talk internally in WWE of late about Richard Holliday because of the story of his beating cancer and in Tama Tonga, who there has been talk about for some time.”

This past December, Holliday revealed he’d been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in September. He beat it earlier this month and announced he was in remission. The former MLW star is slated to work for GCW by making his promotional debut on July 8.

As for Tonga, he’s been on WWE’s radar for a while. He most recently lost the NEVER Openweight Title to David Finlay at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku.
