As of this writing, there is still no word on plans for WWE’s taping plans after this week. The Raw after WrestleMania was taped on the same week as the WrestleMania tapings but a stay-at-home order might force WWE to tape elsewhere if they plan on producing more fresh content for the USA Network and FOX.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that there have been discussions about carrying on with tapings at a different location.
Meltzer said, “They’re looking to tape SmackDown sometime between now and Friday. I mean, there is a location they’re trying to keep secret. It’s supposed to be in a shut down state, but we’ll see what happens. Maybe they won’t be able to do it, maybe they will, but that’s the goal at least for this week.”
If WWE is able to tape more content this week then it would be wise to tape several weeks of shows like AEW did. Last Tuesday through Thursday, AEW taped most (if not all) of the TNT Championship tournament matches and additional matches so, if necessary, they will have content in the can for the next couple of months. If some of those matches are not needed then they will be used for episodes of AEW Dark.
On a conference call that took place on Saturday, President Donald Trump told officials from several major sports leagues that he expects arenas and stadiums to be able to welcome fans by August or September. If that is the case then it means SummerSlam is in jeopardy and WWE will have to account for several months of content to provide to FOX and the USA Network.
There is no word on taping plans for NXT but they did tape a bunch of matches at Full Sail University two weeks ago so they might not be in such a rush to tape more content for those shows at the moment. Several matches that were scheduled for TakeOver: Tampa Bay were taped and will be spread out on future episodes of NXT television.
