It turns out that the trip and fall by Dash Wilder on last week’s WWE Friday Night SmackDown was not an accident.
For those of you that missed it, click here to see the video of Dash Wilder falling down during his entrance before they wrestled Shorty G and Mustafa Ali. If you look closely at the video, it looks like Wilder did not actually trip over the set and he caused himself to fall on purpose.
As noted by Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the booking plan for Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson is for them to be turned into comedy characters. There are mixed feelings on this and this idea can still be shot down but that is the plan as of now and the fall on SmackDown was supposed to be the start of that direction. You may recall that they tried to turn them into comedy characters a few months ago during their feud with The Usos.
The idea is that The Revival would be doing a spoof of The Fabulous Ones tag team. It will be interesting to see if the latest booking decision has any impact on Wilder and Dawson’s contract talks. They have a few months left on their contracts and have not agreed to a deal even though they have been offered a significant raise to stay.
If they choose to look at their options elsewhere, I am sure several promotions, including AEW, ROH, Impact, and NJPW would be interested in talking with them. AEW seems like a strong option since they are treating tag team wrestling more seriously.
