Over the past several weeks, WWE has sent main roster stars to NXT to work feuds with top prospects. AJ Styles made the trip to NXT to feud with Grayson Waller, which saw Waller also make appearances on Monday Night Raw.

Styles ended up wrestling his first-ever NXT match against Waller and going over. Now, Dolph Ziggler is in NXT where he will wrestle Tommaso Ciampa on tonight’s episode of NXT 2.0 with the winner becoming the next challenger for Bron Breakker’s NXT Title.

On Monday’s Raw, Ciampa and Finn Balor beat Ziggler and Robert Roode. Dave Meltzer noted on today's Wrestling Observer Radio the plan going forward is to always have a Raw star in a feud with an NXT star as a way to help boost NXT 2.0 ratings as both shows air on the USA Network.

“The strategy that they’ve had for whatever it’s been, several weeks, when they revamped everything, was they wanted more angles on Raw. Grayson Waller-AJ Styles was the first one. They want an angle on Raw at all times on NXT. So this is the second one, and then this one runs its course after April, Ziggler’s probably gonna be the guy until the Stand & Deliver show [on WrestleMania weekend] then they’ll use another guy. The idea is to always have a main roster guy, preferably from the Raw side, doing an angle on NXT. You do the angle on both Raw and NXT with the idea of that’s one of the ways to build up the NXT rating, which thus far hasn’t worked.”
