It was noted today on the Mat Men Podcast that SummerSlam may not take place on the rumored Sunday, August 22nd date. Andrew Zarian hinted that the plan is for the show to air on a different day.
It turns out that WWE is looking at Saturday, August 21st as the date for the show. That is interesting because if that happens then they would run on the same night as Manny Pacquaio’s fight, also happening in Las Vegas. There is a lot of speculation that it could be Pacquiao’s last fight so there would be a ton of buzz on the boxing event.
WrestleVotes reported today that internally, SummerSlam is listed for August 21st. Zarian noted on the Mat Men Podcast that a huge main event is planned and it was strongly hinted that John Cena would be wrestling on the show. Cena and WWE have been in talks about an appearance on the July 16th SmackDown.
The plan is for SummerSlam to be held at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders.
The rumors of SummerSlam from Las Vegas taking place outside of a Sunday are correct according to a source. Hearing that internally the show is listed for Saturday night 8/21. Credit to @AndrewZarian for the initial date tweet.
