A few months ago, AJ Styles made his big return to WWE television on SmackDown, where he worked a match with Carmelo Hayes. The young star went over in the match while Styles limped to the back.
WWE later announced Styles had a mid-foot ligament sprain. Despite initial speculation that it was an angle, it was determined that he had suffered a legitimate injury. Styles later revealed that he had a Lisfranc injury and was “cooked.”
This serious condition affects the bones and ligaments in the middle of the foot. In a Twitter exchange, Styles said, “It’s called a Lisfranc injury. Look it up, it sucks! I thought when I took off my boot. I would have a bone sticking out of my foot.” He also responded to a fan who mentioned Cam Newton’s 2016 season-ending Lisfranc injury by writing, “Bingo, as the kids say….I’m cooked!”
Styles was supposed to have a farewell storyline before being sidelined with an injury. On a recent edition of SportsKeeda’s Backstage Pass Q&A, WrestleVotes noted that WWE is staying quiet about his status.
“When he got hurt on that Friday night, I heard immediately, ‘Okay, it’s legit. He’s hurt.’ I haven’t heard a word about AJ Styles since. It’s very strange, to be honest, not a word. So whatever it is, they’re keeping it quiet all the way around.”
We wish him a speedy recovery.
