WWE is trying to lock down some big names for Smackdown 1000. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that they are trying to get The Rock to appear on the show. It makes sense because the show was named after his “Laying the Smackdown” catchphrase.
For whatever it’s worth, The Rock is currently in London and has started filming for the “Hobbes & Show” movie, a spinoff from the “Fast and Furious” franchise that also stars Jason Statham. Unless he is given some time off, it seems more likely to me that his presence on the show would consist of a pre-taped promo from London.
Several names have been confirmed for Smackdown 1000 including Evolution (with Ric Flair and Dave Bautista returning), Vickie Guerrero, Teddy Long, Michelle McCool, Torrie Wilson, Edge, and The Undertaker.
Smackdown 1000 will take place in Washington, DC on October 16. At this point, unless WWE announces otherwise, it looks like it will be a regular 2-hour show instead of the 3-hour special that some have speculated about.
