WWE is trying to sign wrestlers to longer deals

2018 has been a crazy year for professional wrestling. Business is booming on the independent scene and there are more non-WWE stars on the free agent market than ever before. WWE has locked in their biggest TV deals in their history and it looks like 2019 will be the year when they sign several free agents. They are also trying to lock in some of the current talent so they can prevent them from going elsewhere.

Mike Johnson mentioned this on a PWInsider Elite audio show.

“I know one of the things that company is doing right now is they’re approaching a lot of talents and trying to sign them to longer-term deals since they’ve locked in their TV deals, they’re trying to lock in some of these talents in longer,” Johnson said.

Say what you want about the bloated roster and wrestlers not being featured every week on TV but, from a financial standpoint, many of them are in a better position because of the new NBCUniversal and Fox Sports TV deals. There are more wrestlers making money from WWE than ever before because there are so many people under contract on the main roster, NXT, NXT UK, 205 Live and the Performance Center.

Dolph Ziggler is one wrestler that was considering leaving the company at one point but he signed a new deal and is making more money than ever before.
