It’s looking less likely by the hour that the Crown Jewel show from Saudi Arabia will take place.
As we wrote about earlier, several United States senators have called on WWE to rethink their plans for November 2nd and their overall business relationship with Saudi Arabia.
WWE issued a statement on Wednesday to the media that simply stated that they were monitoring the situation, following reports that Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi was tortured and killed in the Saudi consulate in Turkey.
If WWE cancels the show then it creates a new problem for them. Brock Lesnar agreed to return at Crown Jewel because he will be getting a significant amount of money. The amount is likely more than he would get from working an ordinary pay-per-view. The same applies to other top stars like Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker.
If the show is canceled then they would have to re-evaluate their creative for the show and figure out what to do with the top advertised matches.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported today that there are backup plans being discussed right now by WWE officials if the show does not take place.
