WWE King Of The Ring tournament returning?

It looks like the WWE King Of The Ring tournament is coming back…or at least it seems that way based on some recent social media posts.

During an interview on WWE’s The Bump, Baron Corbin said that he takes issue with Shinsuke Nakamura calling himself a king after stealing Corbin’s crown. Corbin said that Xavier Woods wants an opportunity to win the crown but he would come up short in a tournament.

Corbin said, “The tournament is what’s necessary to wear that crown. I won it, if you want a shot, talk to somebody, maybe cry to a few people and try to get another tournament set up. Xavier Woods, I would love to face him in that tournament absolutely. It could be in the finals, it could be in the first round. His dream will be cut short but I’m happy to do it, I’m happy to defend it in the right circumstances.

Adam Pearce quote tweeted the video and hinted that we could be seeing the KOTR tournament return. He said, “I know that I have had many conversations with @BaronCorbinWWE on this very topic. Stay tuned.”

If you have been following WWE long enough then you know that none of this is being said unless there’s a plan for a storyline in place.

Xavier Woods tweeted the following:

“Been screaming into the void about #KOTR for years so time to shoot my shot. This works for people with the rumble so I’ll try it…

IM ANNOUNCING MYSELF AS THE FIRST CONTESTANT IN THE HOPEFULLY EVENTUAL KING OF THE RING TOURNAMENT (let’s see if this sticks)”

Corbin has been wearing a crown on WWE TV since winning the 2019 King of the Ring tournament.

The King Of The Ring tournament has been part of WWE for decades. The tournament was not nationally televised from 1985 (won by Don Muraco) through 1991. It was turned into a pay-per-view event in 1993 with Bret Hart being crowned the winner.
