We are sad to report that James Harris has passed away at the age of 70. Harris is known to professional wrestling fans as “The Ugandan Giant” Kamala.
Harris has been dealing with a number of health issues, especially during the last decade. Harris’ health issues led to the amputation of both of his legs.
Harris debuted in the late 70s as “Sugar Bear” Harris. Harris became Kamala when he wrestled in Memphis. The idea for the gimmick came from Jerry “The King” Lawler.
Harris went on to wrestle for Mid-South Wrestling and World Class Championship Wrestling before joining the World Wrestling Federation in 1984. He left the company in 1987 and was brought back for a second stint in 1992 with Harvey Wippleman as his manager. He turned heel in late 1992 and paired with Slick as his manager before disappearing in 1993. His last run on a national stage was as part of the Dungeon Of Doom in 1995 and early 1996.
On behalf of everyone here at WrestlingNews.co, we send our deepest condolences to Harris’ friends and family. As of this writing, there is no official word on the cause of death.
