WWE makes a change to NXT TakeOver schedule

WWE has announced details for the Royal Rumble 2020 travel packages and it’s interesting to note that one big event was off the list and replaced by a Worlds Collide event.

According to the information posted on, NXT TakeOver is not scheduled for Royal Rumble weekend and Worlds Collide will take place at the Toyota Center in Houston.

The previous Worlds Collide shows took place at Axxess and aired on tape delay on the WWE Network. Those events featured matches from wrestlers on NXT, NXT UK, 205 Live and EVOLVE.

The tradition is to schedule a TakeOver event on the night before WWE’s tentpole shows. That would include the Royal Rumble but that apparently won’t be the case for 2020.

It’s unclear what this means for TakeOver shows moving forward. It could be that WWE plans on running standalone TakeOver shows. If they choose to, that would give them wiggle room to schedule them on the same night as AEW pay-per-views as counterprogramming. We’ll see soon if that is the plan.
