WWE sent in an application to the Canadian Radio TV Commission this week looking for approval of the WWE Network as a TV station. The letter said that the network “will include every past WWE, WCW, and ECW.” That is not a typo. So who knows if that means every TV show of just every pay-per-view.
The argument is that a non-Canadian station cannot be allowed to compete with an exisiting Canadian specialty or pay network. WWE claims that the product is unique and not currently offered on Canadian pay or specialty service. They claimed that no Canadian station dedicates a significant portion of its schedule to WWE and they claimed WWE as a sports brand. They also noted that The Fight Network airs boxing , college wrestling, and MMA but that programming is different from WWE. They also noted that the NFL Network, Golf Channel, and MLB Network have been approved and they compared their product to them.
