The Undertaker’s appearance on Monday Night Raw was a surprise to many, including many of the fans at the Barclays Center who also attended WrestleMania 35.
Taker was backstage at WrestleMania but WWE opted to save his appearance for Raw because they wanted to plant the seeds for his next match. As previously noted, Taker is not retired and he will be back in action when WWE returns to Saudi Arabia in June.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told last week that WWE would be doing something to set up Taker’s next match. The word going around backstage at Raw was that it would be Taker vs. Elias in Saudi Arabia.
The reason why Taker is working that show is simple. The Saudi Arabia show generates more money on one night for WWE than WrestleMania and Taker is one of the big names that was requested to be there. There’s no word on future matches after Saudi Arabia but we do know that Taker is taking outside non-wrestling bookings. He will be appearing at Starrcast II next month as part of AEW Double Or Nothing weekend.
