Many of you saw Matt Hardy lose to Bray Wyatt on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. Hardy lost but the cameras stayed on him as he sat in the ring and then did the “Delete” hand gesture several times before the announcers asked if we were seeing some sort of breakdown of Matt Hardy.
Well, it looks like some sort of deal was reached by Hardy and Anthem/Impact Wrestling. A source at Impact believes that some sort of settlement/deal was reached that will allow the “Broken” Matt Hardy character to be used. It’s unclear if Hardy bought the IP or if some sort of deal was reached that would allow The Hardy’s to lease the IP while they are in WWE but it’s unlikely that WWE would use the gimmick if Hardy had not taken full ownership. Hardy has taken ownership of the “Broken” Matt Hardy trademark so that clears the stage for them to go forward with all things “Broken.” I should note that Ed Nordholm retweeted a @MATTHARDYBRAND tweet on 11/14 so things were apparently friendly by that date, one day before Hardy to take ownership of “Broken” Matt Hardy trademark.
As reported months ago by The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has always been interested in doing the “Broken” gimmick but they were not going to enter negotiations to get the IP and Hardy would have to deal with legal talks. WWE would have been willing to do the gimmick once Hardy got full ownership and that is apparently the case.
