The Young Bucks are pissed off at WWE

The Young Bucks are pissed off and many would argue that they have every right to be. As noted on Wednesday night (click here to read the story), The Bucks were sent a cease and desist letter by WWE and were told that they had to stop doing the hand gesture done by DX and the NWO…the same hand gesture that The Bucks were doing for years in New Japan Pro Wrestling.

They’ve had to remove “Too Sweet” references from their website/merchandise or risk legal action that could cost them $150,000 per item and legal fees. The funny thing is that we had an article here on WrestlingNews.co about the hand signal and the trademark was owned by North Carolina State University. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this week that WWE registered ownership of the “Kliq hand gesture” drawing in 2015 but it had already become something regularly used in New Japan Pro Wrestling by 2013.

WWE took the hand gesture from the NWO in WCW but the NWO actually took it from NC State Football. In a 2016 WWE.com interview, AJ Styles talked about the origins of the hand gesture after Luke Gallows joke that it came from Japan. Styles said that it came from the NC State Wolfpack and in his mind, “I think it’s legal for everybody to use it and have a good time with it.”

The Bucks may be able to successfully challenge this legal issue in court but the problem is that it would cost them a lot of money to do so.

Nick and Matt took to Twitter to express their frustration over the whole situation:
