In a period on Friday into Saturday, fans and wrestlers alike learned that WWE released several talents, including Giovanni Vinci, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Isla Dawn, Cedric Alexander, AOP (Rezar and Akam), their manager Paul Ellering, and Blair Davenport. Sonya Deville was informed that WWE wouldn’t renew her deal, which expires later this month.
Davenport first gained recognition in NXT UK before moving to NXT, where she won the Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge in 2023. Drafted to the main roster in 2024, she debuted on SmackDown in June. Despite this promising start, her main roster run was brief and marked by limited use. She made a handful of television appearances, most notably competing in the tournament for the inaugural Women’s United States Championship, where she was eliminated in the first round. Her final match occurred in November 2024.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reported that while there were rumors that WWE had planned to use her more in late 2024 when they asked about her status in November, December, and early January, she hadn’t been discussed for plans. However, that did change.
Around the Royal Rumble, they were told Davenport was brought to TV and pitched the idea of joining Chelsea Green and Piper Niven’s group. It was added that “It got as far as a secret service outfit being prepared, but had been delayed.”
