WWE Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega has been enjoying the most successful singles run of her career. However, she recently revealed that she pitched several extreme ideas for a match that WWE management had to turn down.
The ideas were for her “Bakersfield Brawl” against Piper Niven on the SmackDown before the Money In The Bank event. While appearing on the Lightweights podcast, Vega shared that she wanted to take the hardcore match to another level, inspired by her childhood hero, Jeff Hardy.
“My first hardcore match ever,” Vega said. “I was like, ‘Oh, can I jump off the tron?’ They’re just like, ‘No, no you can’t. We still need to save some oohs and aahs for Money In The Bank tomorrow and you need to just live, you know?’ I’m like, ‘Eventually, I’m going to do it.’ I was a huge Jeff Hardy mark when I was a kid, like ridiculous. So, anything that he’s done, I just want to do that at some point.”
Vega also asked to use ladders for a high spot and pitched using a “barbed wire chancla,” but was again denied, with officials noting they needed to save big moments for the pay-per-view and urging her to take it easy.
