WWE NXT star comments on in-ring return after being sidelined with injury

Io Shirai made her return to in-ring action on Wednesday’s episode of NXT Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University on the USA Network.

She did so by replacing Xia Li in a qualifying match against Aliyah. Shirai went over and joined Candice LeRae, Chelsea Green, Mia Yim, and Tegan Nox in the Ladder Match to determine a new #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Title.

Back in January, it was reported that Shirai “tweaked her knee” during her match against Toni Storm on an episode of NXT TV. Shirai was sent for a precautionary MRI where her status was listed as “day to day.”

She had to wear a knee brace and was sidelined for two months. She took to her official Twitter account where she commented on her return by writing the following:

“Although I hurt my knee and couldn’t wrestle, I shocked the medical trainers by fully recovering within two months. Thankfully no permanent damage at all!! Time for Io Shirai to rampage again!”
