On Thursday morning, WWE announced that the NXT Tag Team Titles are now vacant. This was an expected move with The Viking Raiders, who were the champions, being called up to the main roster and placed on the flagship show of WWE, Monday Night Raw.
In WWE’s statement, they went with the storyline that the titles have been vacated following the controversial ending of the title match between The Viking Raiders and The Street Profits that aired on Wednesday’s episode of NXT. This show was taped on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, from Winter Park, FL at the Full Sail University.
WWE did an angle on the episode where The Forgotten Sons attacked The Viking Raiders causing the match to be thrown out. Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch joined the three teams in a wild brawl to end the show.
It was added in the statement that “NXT General Manager William Regal is prepared to make an announcement regarding the future of the titles on next week’s episode of NXT.”
