Welcome to NXT Takeover: Brooklyn II. We get things started with the following match.
Singles Match: No Way Jose vs. Austin Aries
Aries played mind games with his opponent early, slapping him in the head. He extended his hand to No Way Jose and got slapped in the face for his efforts. No Way Jose landed a double ax handle off the ring apron. Aries took control after sending his opponent’s throat crashing on the top rope. No Way Jose countered his opponent with right hand shots and threw him to the outside. Back in the ring, he sent Aries crashing to the mat with a backdrop. Aries gained the advantage back and locked in Last Chancery, but his opponent reached the bottom rope.
No Way Jose countered the discus elbow with the TKO, but Aries kicked out at two. Aries connected with a suicide dive. A Brainbuster attempt from Aries was reversed with a modified Falcon Arrow, but all it earned was a two-count. Aries hit his discus elbow, but No Way Jose responded with a clothesline. Aries landed the sunset flip from the top turnbuckle and went straight to Last Chancery to force the tap.
Winner: Austin Aries
After the match, Aries ambushed No Way Jose and once again locked in Last Chancery. Hideo Itami’s music hit and he walked down the ramp in a suit. He got in the ring and was kicked low as he took off his blazer. Itami recovered and kicked Aries in the head. He then landed the GTS.
Singles Match: Ember Moon vs. Billie Kay
Moon shot up off the mat with a hurricanrana. A spinning forearm from Kay dropped Moon. Moon landed a springboard crossbody for a two-count. Kay turned her submission attempt into a Gory Bomb. Moon went up the top turnbuckle and connected with her flying Stunner for the win.
Winner: Ember Moon
Singles Match: Booby Roode vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
Booby Roode’s entrance was indeed glorious. The two tied up and Roode shoved Almas off before taunting and yelling “glorious.” Almas delivered a chop to Roode and then landed a springboard hurricanrana. He went for an aerial move, but Roode brought him down. Roode connected with a stalling vertical suplex. Almas reversed a back body drop and nailed Roode with a dropkick off the second rope. “Cien” landed a sprinboard corkscrew plancha.
Almas was drilled with a clothesline. “Cien” landed on his feet off a German Suplex attempt from the top rope. Roode barely kicked out of his opponent’s back suplex pin. Roode went for a Fisherman’s Suplex, but got caught in a small package and again barely kicked out. Almas landed the running knee with Roode seated in a corner. He charged at Roode, but was planted with a spinebuster. Roode hit the Glorious Bomb for the win.
Winner: Bobby Roode
NXT Tag Team Title Match: The Revival (c) vs. Tommaso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano
Dawson and Ciampa got things underway. Dawson worked the left arm of Ciampa. Dawson was reversed and had his own arm twisted. Dawson kicked Ciampa low and got a headlock. Ciampa chopped Dawson twice and even gave Dash a chop. Gargano was tagged in and he worked the arm of Dash. A scoop slam got Dash out of danger.
The teams brawled in the center of the ring. Dawson pulled Dash out of harm’s way. Gargano hit a suicide dive on Dash, while Ciampa pelted Dawson with a knee off the apron. The number’s game got to Ciampa as The Revival double teamed him in the corner. Ciampa fought the team off and went for a tag, but Gargano was pulled down by Dawson.
Dash pretended to fall and hurt himself in the ring, causing the ref to be distracted and not see Gargano get tagged in. Gargano was finally tagged in when Dawson crashed into the corner and Dash’s ambush was thwarted. Gargano jumped in the ring through the middle rope to hit a spear on Dawson for a two-count. Ciampa was tagged in and reversed a DDT to lock in his armbar. Dash was able to escape Gargano’s grasp to break up the submission.
Ciampa and Dawson traded forearms. Ciampa landed a knee. Ciampa and Dawson nailed Dash with their finisher, but Dash got his foot on the rope thanks to his tag partner. Dawson sent Ciampa to the ring post and Dash took out Gargano’s knee. Dawson locked in the reverse figure four and forced Gargano to tap. Great tag team match.
Winners and still NXT tag team champions: The Revival
NXT Women’s Title Match: Asuka (c) vs. Bayley
Bayley was aggressive early, trying to catch the champion slipping with rollup pins. Bayley went for a springboard maneuver, but ate a knee. Asuka landed a running hip attack in the corner. Asuka landed a running kick to the head of Bayley as her body was hunched over the rope. Bayley fought back and landed an elbow to the back of the champion.
Bayley landed a crossbody for a two-count. The champion hit the challenger with a shining wizard for a two-count. With Asuka in a tree of woe, Bayley landed an elbow drop for a nearfall. The champion locked in the ankle lock. Bayley kicked her opponent off. A powerbomb counted was botched and instead Bayley planted Asuka with another move.
The Asuka Lock was applied, but Bayley fought it off and landed Bayley to Belly. The champion kicked out. Asuka countered Bayley’s finisher attempt into the Asuka Lock. Bayley reversed it into a pin. Asuka kicked Bayley in the head for a three-count.
Winner and still NXT Women’s Champion: Asuka
The two embraced once the match was over. Bayley was left in the ring to a standing ovation. The fans chanted, “thank you Bayley.” She went over to hug Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Charlotte and Izzy before walking off.
NXT Title Match: Samoa Joe (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Nakamura’s entrance featured a live performer who did an excellent job. Joe pressed Nakamura against the corner. The challenger had his kick blocked and got slapped. Lots of mixed martial arts going on when the two got to the ground, but neither could land a strike. Nakamura landed numerous knees to the body of Joe.
The champion dragged Nakamura out of the ring and landed a hard chop. Nakamura went for a jumping knee, but landed on the floor from the apron. Joe took advantage with a suicide dive. Joe landed a powerbomb and turned it into a modified boston crab. The champion locked up a crossface, but Nakamura reversed it into a pin for a nearfall.
The challenger took Joe down with an enzugiri. Nakamura charged at Joe in the corner, but was slammed down. The champion went for the Muscle Buster, but Nakamura pushed him off and landed a missile dropkick. Joe looked for a spinning forearm, but Nakamura countered with an armbar. Joe cracked his opponent with a knee and locked in the Coquina Clutch, but couldn’t force the tap.
The champion hit the Muscle Buster, but Nakamura kicked out. He went for it again, but Joe went down and was nailed with a Kinshasa. Joe kicked out, but was popped with another Kinshasa and this time he couldn’t kick out.
Winner and new NXT Champion: Shinsuke Nakamura
After the match, referees threw up the “X” sign and Joe was helped to the back, holding onto his jaw. Nakamura celebrated his title win as the event came to a close.
