Johnny Gargano put his NXT North American Championship on the line against Bronson Reed at WWE NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. Reed won the opportunity last night by winning the Gauntlet Eliminator Match. Gargano was accompanied to the ring by Austin Theory.
The story told here was that Reed had the size advantage but he was at a disadvantage with a rib injury and he wrestled last night. Gargano did moves that focused on Reed’s back and ribs.
Late in the match, Gargano nailed a sick-looking reverse hurricanrana. Gargano then transitioned into the Gargano Escape submission but Reed was able to make it into the ropes to break the hold. Reed then hit a Razor’s Edge from the stage into the ring. Reed missed a splash off the top rope, Garano nailed a superkick and almost pinned Reed. Reed took out Gargano with a clothesline. Reed then tried another splash but he was distracted by Theory and that allowed Gargano time to get up so he could try a top rope hurricanrana. Reed blocked the move and then powerbombed Gargano. The referee counted but Theory put Garano’s foot on the bottom rope.
Reed tossed Garano onto Theory and then he did a dive through the ropes. Gargano moved but Theory took the full force of the dive. Moments later, Garano hit a pair of superkicks but Reed countered with his own superkicked and then a failed moonsault because of Gargano moving out of the way. Gargano hit a pair of One Fina Beat DDT’s to retain the title.
