The third match on the main card for WWE NXT TakeOver: WarGames in Chicago featured Finn Balor taking on Matt Riddle in Balor’s first TakeOver match in 4 years.
They did some grappling to start the match and the pace picked up as the match progressed. Several minutes into the match, Riddle locked in the ankle lock and it looked bad for Balor but Balor was able to make it to the bottom rope to break the hold. Balor was hampered by a bad left knee and it was pointed out by the announcers.
Late in the match, even with the bad knee, Balor was able to hit a double stomp and ripcord clothesline but Riddle caught Balor with a spear and the jackhammer, clearly as a jab at Goldberg. Balor kicked out of the pin attempt.
Moments later, Riddle hit the Bro To Sleep but Riddle decided to follow up with a floating Bro and crashed onto Balor’s knee. Balor hit the running dropkick in the corner and then the double stomp off the top but Riddle moved and locked in the Bromission. Balor was able to escape but Riddle caught him with a kick to the face. Balor caught him with the 1960 DDT and pinned Riddle to win the match. Awesome match.
