WWE continues its trend of going after the likes of former NFL players and mixed martial artists. Stars such as Ronda Rousey, Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley, Matt Riddle, and more all have backgrounds in other professional sports. Recently, WWE offered former NFL punter Pat McAfee a multi-year deal. However, McAfee won’t be competing as an in-ring talent. Instead, it looks like WWE would like to bring him on as a part of their broadcast team.
McAfee served as a guest ring announcer at an NXT live event earlier this year. He then began working NXT pre-show panels for TakeOver events. It appears WWE is impressed with McAfee’s work, because he recently revealed on his podcast, the “Pat McAfee Show,” that WWE has offered him a multi-year contract (via CBS Sports):
“WWE has formally offered me a multi-year contract,” McAfee said. “Who knows what we’re going to be doing over there, they just want me to come make some content. And we’ll see where it goes.
“I am very excited for this,” he added. “This is a dream come true.”
