The Kenny Omega vs. Kazuchika Okada match from Wrestle Kingdom 11 has turned Omega into the biggest free agent in professional wrestling and talk about his future and potential WWE signing has been one of the hottest topics over the last few weeks.
Omega appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Thursday to make an announcement regarding his future in pro wrestling. He announced that he would be staying with New Japan Pro Wrestling and he will not be at the Royal Rumble on Sunday. Omega thanked Dave Meltzer for helping get him the extra exposure this month after his match with Okada.
Omega said that he’s been accused of being vague about his future but he wasn’t doing it on purpose to work anyone. He said that he literally did not know. He said that it sucks that he even has to be an announcement because either way there will be some people that will be disappointed. He wanted to make the announcement now because he doesn’t want to take away from Sunday’s show and doesn’t want to take away anything from the wrestlers on that show. He has not signed a new deal with NJPW but he will be flying to Japan in February to work out a new deal. He is looking at signing a one-year deal with them. He did add that there is a small chance that a deal won’t get worked out but he is confident that he’ll sign a new contract with them. He said that he has unfinished business in Japan and he thinks that he can make more of an impact there than with WWE right now because WWE’s talent roster is loaded right now.
With him staying with NJPW, a rematch between he and Okada is expected to take place soon. Omega also noted that The Young Bucks’ contract will be up next year and he wants to focus on doing big things with The Elite.
